In almost every county in America, police departments, sheriff departments, highway patrols across the land are preparing for a mass of drunk drivers as the Holiday seasons have arrived. Preparing, the U.S. Department of Transportation is partnering with thousands of law enforcement officials on a Nation-Wide DUI crackdown.

Ray LaHood the Secretary of Transportation kicked off this effort in Washington this week. To combat drivers who refuse breathalyzers and opt for the blood test, the Secretary kicked off a “no refusal strategy” which allows on-call judges to issue warrants for blood samples.

From LaHood:

“Drunk driving remains a leading cause of death and injury on our roadways,” LaHood said in a statement announcing the “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest” campaign. “I applaud the efforts of the law enforcement officials who have pioneered the ‘no refusal’ approach to get drunk drivers off our roads. And I urge other states to adopt this approach to make sure that drunk drivers can’t skirt the law and are held accountable.”
